This article reveals the role of the educational institution’s museum as a venue continuously engaged in state policy on preserving historical memory, where students are active participants in museum activities. A museum has a particularly emancipatory dimension, fostering the formation and dissemination of historical and cultural memory. As an element of preserving cultural memory through educational practices, a museum achieves a number of educational outcomes. Museum pedagogy plays a significant role in museums, clearly responding to the challenges of time and serving as an integral tool for interacting with the younger generation, due to which a museum becomes a bridge between tradition and innovations, because interactive technologies can be found there besides archival materials. Furthermore, museums in education operate through commemorative practices, which act as a mnemonic framework and transmit cultural values to the younger generation. The article also presents the experience of organizing student research-based learning activities on the history of the Novosibirsk Region based at the museum of Novosibirsk Pedagogical College No. 1 named after A. S. Makarenko, which has demonstrated that the presented works reflect the direct commemorative component of the museum, acting as a place of memory and focused on rethinking the past through certain practices that promote students’ involvement in the history of the region and the achievement of personal, meta-subject and subject results.
