Development of mathematical literacy of schoolchildren in Math classes

Abstract. The article reviews the term of mathematical literacy as one of the components of functional literacy and its relevance in the conditions of implementation of the renewed Federal state educational standards is substantiated. The main meaning of the term “mathematical literacy” is “the ability to formulate, apply and interpret Mathematics in a variety of contexts”. Examples of tasks for the successful development of mathematical literacy in Math classes are given. The example of the schematic graphical visualization of the notion “mathematical literacy” is presented. The application of this kind of visualization provides the most productive memorizing of the mathematical terms by students. The structural components of practice-oriented tasks necessary for the development of mathematical literacy are listed: problem situation, information in various forms, the result application area, the absence of some components in the structure, redundancy of information, the presence of several ways to solve the problem. This publication shows the necessity of changing the organization of the educational process of studying Mathematics in view of the practical applicability of knowledge and skills, of the connection of Mathematics with the surrounding world, the world of science, technology and modern technologies. The integration of practice-oriented tasks in the control and measurement materials of the Main state examination, of the all — Russia tests and other monitoring studies emphasizes the relevance of the formation of mathematical literacy at each stage of the education.
