Educational potential of the subject “Physical Education”

Abstract. The article reveals the importance of physical education as a discipline, as well as one of the main directions in the implementation of upbringing, determined by the Federal state educational standards. The article considers the content of sample work programs of primary, basic secondary, secondary general education, describing the educational function of the subject “Physical Education”. The review of the sample program of upbringing for general educational organizations which reflects the upbringing orientation of physical culture as a school subject is carried out. The target reference points of the results of physical education are considered separately in the program of upbringing. Later on the content of the targets is offered to be considered as criteria in analyzing the educational results. The material of the article includes a description of the forms of the educational process within the subject “Physical Education”, ways of realization of the educational component, examples of tasks for forming the students’ personal results, variants of tasks on physical education within the models of the plan of extracurricular activities and also recommendations for improving the quality of classes and educational activities. On the whole the content of the article answers three main questions: What is the educational potential of the subject “Physical Education”? How can a physical education teacher implement the educational potential of the subject? How can a teacher of physical education analyze the effectiveness of educational activities?
