Methods of solving text tasks about mixtures and alloys

Abstract. To implement one of the main requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard — the ability to apply the knowledge gained in real life — text tasks are the most suitable. Various contextual tasks allow students to solve life problems with the help of subject knowledge. Children extract independently information, analyze it and draw conclusions. Problem solving is closely related to the ability of thinking independently and logically as well as applying various methods and stages of mathematical modeling. The interesting and close to real life situations content of tasks makes them relevant for students. This article is devoted to methods of solving different text tasks about mixtures and alloys. The article considers as both the standard algebraic method of solution with the addition of “visualization” and more unusual ones: cross method, “fish” method, graphic method and spliced axle method. The article provides solutions with the usage of methods on the tasks from the open storage of Main State exam (OGE). Separately the drying is considered in each method as one of the most interesting subtype of text tasks about mixtures and alloys. The tasks about mixing more than two active substances using several methods are solved. It represents a prototype for multiple dilution tasks.

Keywords: text tasks, mixtures, alloys, solutes, algebraic method, “fish” method, graphic method, cross method.
