The phenomenon of school failure: normative, pedagogical, psychological aspects

Abstract. The article briefly presents the approaches of Russian and foreign authors to the problem of school failure: its definition, classification and reasons. It is concluded that the school failure is determined not only by backlog in school subjects, but also by the non-use of existing intellectual opportunities by students. The author also proves the high influence of subjective reasons on school failure: the psychophysiological state of the student and the level of his educational motivation, and less influence of objective reasons.
