Didactic potential of online educational platforms in the development of foreign language lexical skills of schoolchildren
Abstract. The article deals with an actual problem of teaching vocabulary for schoolchildren at foreign language lessons. A methodological characteristic of the lexical skill is given, while special attention is paid to ways of revealing the meaning of lexical units at the stage of their presentation at the lesson, the importance of formulating questions to test the understanding of a new presented vocabulary, as well as the stages of development of students’ foreign language lexical skills. Examples of exercises for each stage are given. The article also defines the definition of online educational platform, it provides a classification of online platforms for education depending on the goals and their didactic opportunities, and justifies the need for their introduction into the educational process in order to develop the foreign language lexical skills of secondary school students. Using the example of several online educational platforms, their high didactic potential in teaching vocabulary for schoolchildren in foreign language lessons is demonstrated, and methodological recommendations are given on the use of online platforms for education at different stages of the development of lexical skills of secondary school students. In addition, the article shows that the introduction of educational platforms into the educational process has a positive effect on the motivation of schoolchildren to learn a foreign language in general and foreign vocabulary in particular, and also contributes to the development of students’ learning autonomy.
