Results of the psychological and pedagogical Olympiad named after O. S. Grebenyuk: “growth points” for schoolchildren and mentors

Abstract. The purpose of this article is to identify “growth points” for schoolchildren and their mentors for more effective preparation for Psychological and Pedagogical Olympiad named after O. S. Grebenyuk. We have analyzed the results of participants completing Olympiad tasks and identified aspects that require close attention from mentors at the stage of preparing schoolchildren for the Olympiad. Firstly, we should pay attention to the fact that completing tasks involves a change in social position (the student takes a new position — that of a teacher). Secondly, the successful completion of complex (difficult) tasks requires the formation of initial psychological and pedagogical competencies associated with the ability to perceive and understand the psychological and pedagogical characteristics of students in the educational school environment. Thirdly, “the point of growth” for students in psychological and pedagogical classes is speech culture; it manifests itself when schoolchildren complete written and oral assignments. Fourthly, the results indicate that there is a need to develop critical thinking (in particular, logical reasoning, validity of conclusions, argumentation). And finally, fifthly, an important direction in working with students in psychological and pedagogical classes is the development of divergent thinking. The article identifies long-term tasks for better preparation of students for the third psychological and pedagogical Olympiad named after O. S. Grebenyuk in the 2024/2025 academic year.
