Importance of developing supra-professional competencies in the aspect of university student’s professional training

Abstract. 

Relevance. Modern education actualizes the demand of business processes, therefore, the key point of career guidance for a modern student is his adaptation to the needs of the labor market, enriched with new criteria of a sought-after specialist, including possession of soft skills. Accordingly, universities focused on high-quality personnel training are interested in understanding the mechanisms and system of formation of soft skills or supra-professional competencies.
Goal. To identify and describe the deficits in the development of supra-professional competencies, motivators, demotivators of educational and personality-developing activities of the first-year students of the State University of Education as future professionals-specialists.
Selection. The study involved 761 respondents, first-year full-time students from all faculties.
Methods. The study was carried out on the basis of the diagnostic methods (tests) which are used on the platform «Russia — the land of opportunities», a pilot project for the assessment and development of supra-professional competencies of students, theoretical methods of the research: analysis, synthesis, generalization, practical-oriented methods of the research: measurement, comparison, description.
Results. Deficits in the development of supra-professional competencies, demotivators of educational and personality-developing activities of the first-year students of the State University of Education as future professionals-specialists are identified. Based on the revealed data, «Profi-leader» compensation and development program has been developed. The 124-hour program for the development of soft skills or supra-professional competencies consists of four modules: «Interaction management», «Task management», «Energy of personal influence», «General knowledge».
Conclusions. To prepare a competitive specialist adapted to the modern labor market, based on the diagnosis of supra-professional soft skills competencies, it is necessary to identify deficits in the development of supra-professional competencies, motivators, demotivators of the student’s educational and developmental activities; to develop a program for the development of supra-professional competencies.
