Strengthening the technological sovereignty of Russia: regional challenges in education and answers to them

Abstract. This article considers the education sector as a tool of providing technological sovereignty of our country in accordance with the relevant goals which were set by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. The experience of the Kaliningrad region in training the members of the educational process is described, responding to the challenges of modern school. The article gives examples of technological profile with different engineering components taking into account the demand of the local government: engineering and cosmic class, engineering and ship-building class, engineering and railway class, IT — class, class of Mathematics and Physics, associated schools of the educational centre «Sirius» (Educational fond «Talent and success»), agricultural technological class. Forward-looking curriculum for prevocational cosmic class is shown, its unicity is in offering to open prevocational classes for 14-year-old students and to start career-oriented work as a propaedeutic course in 5th and 6th grades. The article emphasizes the necessity of improving teachers’ competency in students’ graphical training as an integral part of technological (engineering) education in profession-oriented classes. The content of the updated programme of craft (technology) lessons is presented, which is without a doubt a foundation for the schoolchildren engineering thinking development, it introduces students with relevant technologies and approaches to form the technological independence. The conclusion about the importance of education sector in the formation of the technological independence basis has been drawn.
